Starting A Event Catering Business

Event catering is a huge market and has vast amounts of opportunities for new catering businesses.

With event catering the catering company is not only expected to know everything about food but also how to make it look attractive and appealing.

If you work in event catering then you are expected to provide the full service. This means arranging the theme, colors, table settings, decorations and lighting.

It also means arranging the staff that will be serving the food and even how they are dressed. Although the food is an important element the event, the decorations etc contribute significantly to the customers overall enjoyment of the event.

Thus, it is crucial that you get it right. Being an event caterer takes numerous amounts of organizing so it is crucial that you know everything that is going on and what has to be accomplished.

In event catering you could be employed to make food and appropriate decor for anything! Some of these are listed below:

  • Indian theme
  • Chinese theme
  • Vegetarian
  • Sushi
  • Fish
  • Wedding
  • Graduation
  • Conventions
  • Birthday parties
  • Retirements

These are just a few examples of events that you could be contracted to do. You may find that you only wish to specialize in a few theme areas that you then become famous for. Alternatively, you could charge a premium fee to come up with an original idea every time. For most businesses, especially new starts, you will take whatever work you can get and if that means doing the exact same event week in week out, then so be it.

It is important to remember that when starting up your business, it may be more beneficial to the company in the long run to just concentrate in one area and then when you start to grow develop into the other areas.

My business involves me going round to people's houses and using their kitchen to provide meals for them and their guests. This works well and through word of mouth alone your reputation and therefore your business can grow fast. I bring the ingredients which are all prepped and some utensils.
