Training and Qualifications
In the catering industry there are many different jobs available and at all different levels, therefore, different qualifications are needed.
If you were interested in management in catering then you will definitely require a HND in Catering management or equivalent as well as the appropriate Food Hygiene certificates along with relevant management experience.
If you are interested in becoming a chef or working in any area of the kitchen then you will also require the relevant qualifications in Food preparation or equivalent.
Although, there are different kinds of Chefs so you may need additional qualifications or experience.
Thus, if you are starting up your own catering business then it is crucial that you have these qualifications as well or at least have someone in higher management that will know them because within the catering industry adhering to all the appropriate food and safety regulations is crucial and at the centre of the business.
In order to gain these qualifications you should look at some college or university prospectuses to see what catering courses are on offer and what would suit yourself.
